ONE ON ONE INTERVIEW WITH TRAVIS SCHULDT

How did you get the job on Passions?
I auditioned in Dallas first. I didn't hear anything for a while and then they called me back to do a screentest. I found out just before Christmas of 1998 that they were interested in me, so I decided to move out in January because I figured the time was right. Then they called me in March to test again. I read with Lindsay (Theresa), who was also screentesting.

What other acting experience did you have before Passions?
In Dallas, I did commercials and theater. I went to TCU and did theater there. I modeled in Dallas too. That gave me money to come out to LA. When I came out here, I got a pilot called Sagamore which didn't get picked up. But it all worked out with Passions!

How do you like LA?
I like LA. It's a lot easier here when you have a job-especially as an actor, so I've been fortunate. I came out here in January and I was staying with a friend, sharing a one-bedroom apartment, and I was running out of money. I was getting to the point where I needed a job so this all happened at the right time.

Describe your typical day at Passions.
I get in either at 7 am or 12:30 and do dry blocking. Then we go to makeup and hair, and then we get called and start doing our thing. A lot of our shooting schedule has to do with pace--it's very speedy. That was the hardest thing to get used to, because being an actor you always want another take.

What's been your favorite scene so far?
The one that really stands out in my mind was one with McKenzie (Sheridan). We only got the scene the night before we taped it, so we were really in the moment. The scene was a flashback to her and I going to Princess Diana's funeral. Some things happened there between us which were just what it's all about. It had a lot to do with the spontaneity.

What's your dream storyline for Ethan?
I'd like to see Ethan become an adventurer-have wild hair, drop the business, and just go off and travel. That would be fun! Orbecome an independent rebel, fighting for the freedom from aggression! That would be cool-some action scenes.

What was it like having your first scene be a love scene?
It was nerve-wracking. A lot of nerves and anxiety. I had tons of pages of dialogue too, so I just had to force out all the distractions.

If you could play any other character on the show, whom would you play?
Julian. I like his character. Maybe even Sam.

Do you hang out with anyone off the set?
Yeah. Most of the guys, we hang out. I hang out with Jesse (Miguel) and Galen (Luis) and Dalton (Hank). We're friends. We get along really well.

Do you think Ethan's going to wind up with Gwen or Theresa?
There's no telling. It's going to get interesting, because I think Ethan's still unsure what love is. There's a lot of issues to be dealt with.

If you weren't an actor, what would you be?
A poet. I like to write.

What's your favorite book?
It's either "This Perfect Day" which is by Jay Levin, it's the only book I've ever read twice, or "Where the Wild Things Are," the children's book.

What's your favorite TV show?
The X-Files.

What's your favorite movie?
Chariots of Fire always comes to mind.

If you could work with any actor or actress who would it be?
Willem DeFoe is one of my favorites. He's really interesting. For an actress, Natalie Portman.

What are your hobbies?
I like to play ultimate frisbee and golf. I also like Japanese anime films.

If you had to describe yourself in three words what would they be?
Intelligent, disgruntled, obsessive.

If you were stranded on a desert island with one person, who would you want it to be?
Jeri Ryan is the first person that comes to mind.

If you had to write your autobiography tomorrow, what would you call it?
Generic White Boy.
